Through its partnership with label printer Sign & Seal Labels, ROTOCON emerges as a transformative force, reshaping the landscape of digital printing in South Africa, with the introduction of the SCREEN Truepress Jet L350UV SAI series UV inkjet press.

COURTESY of leading print technology supplier ROTOCON, Sign & Seal Labels unveiled their latest weapon of success: the SCREEN Truepress Jet L350UV SAI series digital press. The unveiling was done during a launch at Sign & Seal’s premises in Blackheath, Cape Town last month. This collaboration underscores ROTOCON’s dedication to empowering print service providers (PSP) with state-of-the-art solutions to meet evolving market demands.

The installation of the SCREEN Truepress Jet L350UV SAI series at Sign & Seal Labels represents the first of its kind on African soil with full colour variable data (PDFormstudio), showcasing ROTOCON’s role as a pioneer in introducing cutting-edge technology to the market. There are only a handful of these installed worldwide.

Henk Crous, managing director of Sign & Seal Labels, attests to the transformative impact of the digital press, emphasising its advanced features and unmatched capabilities poised to revolutionise label production.

The 16-year partnership between Sign & Seal Labels and ROTOCON has been instrumental in ensuring seamless integration and ongoing support for the latest technology. Both partners emphasise that their close relationship, based on shared values of honesty, integrity and customer focus, has facilitated their success and growth over the years.

ROTOCON group CEO Michael Aengenvoort underscores the significance of Sign & Seal’s expertise and operational excellence in maximising the potential of the SCREEN digital press. ‘You can buy the fastest car, but if you don’t have the best driver, you won’t win the race,’ he said. ‘With their level of expertise and experience, Henk and his team understand how to effectively utilise this technology for maximum operator output, and to generate the most value from it.’

The synergistic relationship between Sign & Seal Labels and ROTOCON exemplifies the power of collaboration in driving innovation and achieving mutual success. By leveraging the latest technology and embracing a customer-centric approach, both companies are poised to lead the industry in delivering quality and service.

Serving the market

In his keynote address, Henk emphasised the significance of embracing digital innovation to maintain a competitive edge. ‘We’re intensely aware of the need to up our game in a market where customisation and specialisation are increasingly demanded by wine producers. We already have an excellent reputation and increasingly our customers are requesting more specialised label finishes, such as foiling and embossing.’

Henk highlighted Sign & Seal’s journey into the digital market, starting with the acquisition of its first digital press in 2018 and culminating in the recent purchase of its second SCREEN press: the Truepress Jet L350UV SAI series. ‘This investment underscores our commitment to meeting evolving customer demands for customisation, shorter runs and increased flexibility.’

Class-leading press

The procurement of the SCREEN Truepress Jet L350UV SAI series at Sign & Seal Labels marks a significant milestone in the evolution of label printing technology in South Africa.

Commenting on the capabilities of the press, Michael said the SAI series has been developed in response to the industry’s need for mixed, short-run printing for the high-end and luxury segments. ‘This new system enables significantly richer colour expression as well as superior scalability, enabling it to meet a wide variety of market needs,’ he commented.

“SAI” refers to the press’s extremely stable operation, highly accurate colour reproduction and time-tested integrated technologies. Seven inks –CMYK plus white, orange and blue – ensure superior colour  reproduction while support for an extra printhead provides optimum future scalability. ‘The expanded colour gamut (ECG) allows for consistent printing time after time,’ remarked Michael. ‘These technologies provide a far wider range of colour expression than was previously possible.’

According to Michael, the SCREEN SAI series boasts several key features that set it apart from its predecessors and competitors. With a printing speed of 60m/m, coupled with enhanced efficiency and productivity, this digital press delivers exceptional results while maintaining cost-effectiveness.

Henk believes one of the most significant improvements is the capability for colour printed variable data, catering to the growing demand for security-conscious labelling, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry. This feature allows for the inclusion of minute details and text, ensuring compliance with stringent regulatory requirements. ‘This provides superior readability on medical, supplement and other labels with large amounts of small type information,’ Henk noted. The use of micro-droplets also supports all major types of security printing, including QR and barcodes plus dot codes and security tint patterns.

Henk also highlighted the impact of the SCREEN digital press on Sign & Seal’s production capabilities, emphasising its role in streamlining operations and reducing waste. ‘The machine’s efficiency and effectiveness exceed traditional analogue machines, delivering three times the productivity levels while maintaining exceptional quality and consistency,’ he enthused.

Michael reiterates Henk’s statement that a single SAI system can now deliver the same level of productivity as three analogue web presses. ‘With the SAI-S model, print speeds have been boosted to 60m/m, while the time required for preparation work has been dramatically shortened compared to an analogue press.’

Mutual respect

The longstanding partnership between Sign & Seal Labels and ROTOCON has been instrumental in driving innovation and ensuring seamless integration of the latest technology. ROTOCON’s expertise and unwavering support have empowered Sign & Seal to stay ahead in the competitive market, setting new standards of quality and efficiency.

The SCREEN Truepress Jet L350UV SAI series, with its class-leading features and unmatched performance, exemplifies ROTOCON’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions to the South African printing industry. Its stability, accuracy in colour reproduction and integrated technologies redefine the possibilities of digital print, setting a new benchmark for excellence.
